Chen Pan Ling’s Tai Chi Chuan

This DVD shows Chen Pan Ling’s style of Tai Chi, probably his most famous and widely taught art. Though Chen was considered a master of Xing Yi and Bagua, his Tai Chi , developed supposedly with the help of other instructors, is a canny blend of all three arts. The structure is mostly Xing Yi, the movements Tai Chi and the foot patterns borrow much from Bagua. The second half of the DVD shows his Tai Chi sword, a very nice, medium length set of no mean skill. This is taken from his son’s performance of obviously some years back but the quality is good. As far as our tastes the best DVD of the entire series. No instruction per se, more of a general reference but very clearly shown.

Lost T’ai-chi Classics from the Late Ch’ing Dynasty (Chinese Philosophy and Culture)

Douglas Wile translates and analyzes four collections of recently released nineteenth-century manuscripts on T’ai-chi ch’uan. These writings of Wu’s older brothers Ch’eng-ch’ing and Ju-ch’ing, and his nephew Li I-yu, together with the transmissions of Yang Pan-hou, represent a significant addition to the seminal literature. The rich new texts allow us to make a fresh survey of longstanding issues in T’ai-chi history: the origins of the art; the authorship of the “classics;” the differences between Wu, Yang, and Li; and the roles of Chang San-feng, Wang Tsung-yueh, Chiang Fa, and the formerly missing link, Ch’ang Nai-chou. The original Chinese texts of the four new sets of classics have been appended for the convenience of Chinese readers and scholars. The book reconsiders the world of the Wu, Yang, and Li families of Yung-nien and reconstructs it against the background of the Opium Wars, the Taiping Rebellion, and the decline of the Manchu dynasty. New biographical sources illuminate the domestic and political lives of the Yung-nien circle and their orientation to the late imperial intellectual trends. The development of T’ai-chi ch’uan in the nineteenth century is explored in the context of China’s cultural response to the challenge of the West and the role of body-centered arts in Asia during the drive for independence and the ongoing search for national identity.

RESTORE, REALIGN, RELAX and RECHARGE…

Tai Chi for Enlighteners releases stress, guarantees health and sharpens mental focus; a step-by-step method creating a giant leap in the quality of your life.

I originally marketed Tai Chi for Enlighteners to people fifty years and older. Im a Baby Boomer and know how it helps our physical balance as we age. However, I began tai chi when I was twenty-three and it served me well as I was gently “fine-tuned” and “re-charged” during the challenges I faced raising a family and having a career. Now that I’m in my sixties, I walk and physically feel as I did when I was younger. I personally know tai chi is a pathway to “internal youth”.

The beauty and the power of Tai Chi Chuan is created in the way that one moves. In essence, the mastery of one move is far superior to the learning of a hundred Tai Chi moves. The purpose of this program is not to teach a series of complicated postures, but to simplify and clarify the physical, energetic and mental dynamics that empower the beautiful movements of Tai Chi Chuan. The first section explores the structural mechanics that are universal to all Tai Chi Chuan styles. Section two loosens and lubricates all the joints of the body. Section three integrates the structural mechanics into ten Tai Chi postures. The final section combines mind intent and inner body skill to maximize the strength, energy, and circulation of power flowing throughout all Tai Chi Chuan movements. This program combines breathtaking nature footage set to the inspiring music of Jonn Serrie, with Master Instructor Jerry Alan Johnson guiding you visually while the mesmerizing words of actor John Saxon (Enter the Dragon) carries you to uncharted levels of energy and power.
